The first field day at the Virginia Tech Turfgrass Research Center occurred in 1972 and the only interruption in an annual research Field Day event since that time was due to Covid-19 in 2020.

The 2023 50th Anniversary of the Turfgrass Research Center provided the opportunity for one of the largest Field Day crowds in many years to return to Blacksburg for the two days of festivities on August 28th and 29th.
